Some bodies, not in static equilibrium, may be in dynamic equilibrium. These problems can be reduced to problems of static equilibrium. First, the acceleration of the part in question is computed, then it is multiplied by the mass of the body, giving a force. The force so computed, if applied to the body in a direction opposite to the acceleration at its mass center reduces the dynamic problem to one of statics. This is d'Alembert principle.
